Resolution Assistance

Identity Theft Resolution Assistance is the component of an identity theft program that provides assistance to the individual after an identify theft has taken place.

The real need for resolution assistance is compounded by the difficulty the victim has in knowing the proper steps to take, the address to which information must be sent, the phone numbers to call and the inability to actual get someone from a financial institution or credit bureau on the phone.

The quality of the resolution assistance service is the heart of the identity theft program.

After the individual contacts the resolution team a series of events takes place to begin the process of restoration. Those steps include:

  • Analysis of the victim’s specific problems
  • Creation of a resolution plan
  • Notification of:
    • Credit bureaus
    • Creditors
    • Debt collectors
    • Law enforcement
  • Completion of the FTC Affidavit
  • Implementation of fraud alerts

In most situations the resolution team works closely with the victim for as long as it takes to complete the process. While much of the activity takes place initially, most resolution organizations are equipped to for a year long process if required.
